If either of my nieces goes in for motherhood, though, the kids are getting this book. As I am of limited funds-in fact, my NAME might as well be Limited Funds, except for the inconvenience of changing my initials-I decided to look at it in the library. Splat is a cat of good upbringing and even better conscience: his best friend is Seymour the mouse, and Splat has I love Splat so much that I considered buying this book.

The illustrations are big, bright, brash, and unique in style.

I love Splat so much that I considered buying this book. The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical and the fact that Splat has a pet mouse named Seymour made me laugh and half the waiting room looked at me like I was nuts. I know I would have loved it when I was a little kid and I can't think of any higher praise. This book isn't quite up there with my personal favorites, like Big Al or Six Dinner Sid, but it made me smile and I loved the message. Sometimes it's fun to read new children's books and compare them to my old favorites. Sure, I could barely see, but that's what books with giant words and adorable illustrations are for, right? You can't keep me from reading! Why on earth did I read a book clearly intended for kindergarteners? Because even sitting in my ophthalmologist's office with my eyes dilated, I felt adrift without a book. It's possible that my atrocious head-cold, and attendant grouchiness while reading this one, have colored my view, but I honestly didn't see much here to rave about.more Scotton's illustrations are cute at first, but it soon becomes apparent that the google-eyed Splat always seems to be wearing the same basic expression.
